What is the purpose of the 'Swimlane Group' field in the Participant swimlane control (left hand column)?
It looks like it only pulls through User Groups (security) from Blueworks, but I cannot see any other related functionality or purpose for this.
We had hoped that it would have allowed to group by areas such as department or similar, but that isn't the way it works.
Appreciate if anyone can clarify this for us.

    Hi Simon,

One thing this can be used for is customizing the feedback to the appropriate level, as the group can be informed of changes to the swimlane in the Blueworks Live feed.

For example, one group could be informed about process changes, one group about changes in the swimlane and another group about specific components.

Hope that helps answer your question!

Adding to what Stephanie provided, while we have not seen Swimlane Groups widely used, it is quite useful for larger accounts where users are also the participants in the swim lanes. One of the reports in our new Blueworks Insights add-on tool is to leverage that concept so that a user can have a list of all processes that they are actually involved in. This makes Stephanie's suggestion of being able to be notified on changes very relevant since users can get notifications not just in those they are following but the ones that impact their day-to-day. However, as I said this approach is more relevant to organizations that try to expand usage to beyond just the process improvement team.
