  • 1.  C2R993I Message?

    Posted Mon December 11, 2023 02:57 PM

    Hello All,

I had a user report that they received the following trying to access the zSecure panels.

+C2R993I Diagnostic dump suppressed for C2RIMENU task PROGRAM  system abend 002

The user's session hung and the ID had to be canceled.  I do not have the same behavior accessing the panels and on a subsequent try, the user did not either.

I reviewed the messages manual and don't see anything for C2R993I. I also tried searching online, also without any results.

Are there any other details available about what may have caused this?

    Thanks,
    Matt

    Hi Matt,

The 993 message comes from a run-time library. The C2RIMENU program uses the C2R prefix, but the circumstance is likely similar as for CKR993I.

Since the message apparently does occur in the context of this program also, perhaps we should document it..

Seeing system abend 002 mentioned in C2R993I, you may want to trawl SYSLOG for the corresponding IEC036I message from the user.

    Thanks Rob & Jeroen,

There was an IEC036I related to the user's ISPPROF PDS right above. We're thinking it possibly went into an extent when trying to launch the zSecure panel or something else impacted an EOF marker in one of the members.

I remember abend 002 caused by writing to 2 or more members of a PDS simultaneously.  Obviously, ISPF and zSecure only write to ISPPROF using table services, 1 member at a time, but what if the user had an ISPF member allocated to a normal ddname that writes using QSAM/BSAM?

If you must update several members at the same time, use PDSE.  I did this from CARLa reports, updating dozens of members in the same report.  Works great, unless the user decides to use a PDS instead.  Abend 002.
