Hi Folks,

I am looking whether or not there is any online IBM support available concerning config creation assistance?
Bit like Techline, but then more pre-sales I guess.

I am not an IBM Tape specialist  and need some guidance on a tape config creation.
Customer wants to replace a TS3500 with a newer system utilizing Jaguar drives.

All help is appreciated!

first, you have to find out, how the TS3500 is configured (# of Drives, what type, what type of cartridges are there, how many slots are available in the Lib) and the logical configuration. Is the lib partitioned or one big one connected to the Backup server. You can export (copy) the actual Library VPD and Drive VPD from the WebGui. It is very helpful to get the configuration of the Lib

second : How does the customer do backups (incremental for ever, differential, fullbackups)? Did he use copies to export from the Lib? Is the actual backup sufficient for the customer related to the time the backups will run (Backupwindows)? How does the backup change over time (example : amount of data is increasing 10% per year)? How lomg is the retention period of media located in the library?

If the customer has TS1140 drives or newer, he can move the Drives to a TS4500. Simple way, if the customer did not want to make any changes to the rest of his environments. With Jaguar technology there is media reuse also a big theme. What type of Media did the customer use?
