  • 1.  HDD Firmware Upgrade

    Hi,

    We have a Storwize v7000 running 7.8.1.11 and would like to install some 300GB 15K IBM 81Y9671 (ST9300653SS FW B63K) drives which the unit is reporting they are "Unsupported Type" and have followed the follwing steps without success;
    • Updated HDD firmware via linux on IBM x3650 M4
    • Attempted to upgrade via Management GUI with "storagedisk6195_drive_20191219.dms" which errors
    • Attempted to upgrade via CLI with --force flag which also errors
    Is there a way to upgrade drive firmware from B63K to B63Q or B63M?

    Any advise would be very much appreciated...

    Hello.
    In Storwize V7000 with version 7.8.X you should have no problem recognizing the disks. provided that these disks are among those supported by Storwize.
    Looking for FRU 81Y9671 I find no relationship with Storwize?? . I attached a capture of the label of that FRU

    FRU 85Y6185 ST9300653SS (FW B633) is supported on Strowize and has this other label.

    Please verify label of your disks and if it is possible to attach capture of that label.
    If you do not recognize the disk you cannot update it in the Storwize.

    Looks like our disks are unsupported in that case.

    Is there no possible way to upgrade firmware of our disks from B63K to B633 or B63Q?

    Hello Geoff.

    The FW B633 or B63Q are for the FRU 85Y6185 (code manufacturer ST9300653SS).
    The FRU 81Y9671 is not from the same manufacturer, as I can see in some photos on the internet, the manufacturer would be MK3001GRRB so the firmware is different.
