IBM's bet on data resiliency capability | IBM Storage Defender

The prevalence of ransomware is a growing concern for businesses of all sizes. Whether or not an attack is successful, the fact remains that it’s not a matter of if but rather when an organization will experience such an incident.

It’s essential to acknowledge that infrastructure data, including backup data, can be vulnerable to cyberthreats. Data recovery may become impossible if backups are compromised or deleted. Consequently, attackers may attempt to target these valuable workloads.

When considering the technology and features currently needed in the market, It’s crucial to understand that no single vendor can provide a complete ransomware recovery solution. Instead, a range of technologies and vendors must collaborate to create integrated solutions that cater to the diverse requirements of organizations. Therefore, a comprehensive ransomware recovery solution should incorporate a broad spectrum of capabilities provided by multiple vendors.

IBM believes that data resiliency is a comprehensive approach to safeguarding data and ensuring its accuracy and integrity. It involves distinguishing between primary and secondary workloads and addressing targeted recoveries that are critical for restoring operations. IBM Storage Defender is a powerful tool that provides end-to-end visibility for data resilience across primary and secondary workloads. It brings together the necessary capabilities for enterprises to achieve real data resilience beyond just data protection.

The capabilities that IBM Storage Defender provides include:

  • A unified and clear view of the overall data resilience status across primary and auxiliary storage
  • Sensor in Operating System (OS) for real time Anomaly and malware detection

  • Inline threat detection within primary data storage with deep inspection of metric's like compression, read write ratio, Shanon entropy for data randomness, etc (read my blog: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/have-you-heard-data-storage-capable-cyber-attack-detection-yadav-bnzif/)
  • Immutable copies of data (crash-consistent and application-consistent, read my blog: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/ibms-sgc-feature-can-recover-your-data-from-cyber-attacks-yadav-f3lxf/)
  • Backups and data protection with High availability and Replication
  • Air-gap, Isolation, Immutable copy and encryption for backup data
  • Data reduction rate monitoring, anomaly and malware detection for backup
  • Immutable copy / Backup data cleanroom testing (integration with partner solution)
  • Application recovery grouping with trust indexing allows the client to automate restoration in one click
  • Tape and S3 Cloud integration
  • IBM Qradar and other SIEM integrations
  • Subscription based resource unit licensing model
  • Consolidated support experience

Today, only IBM can provide end-to-end data resilience across the entire hybrid cloud. IBM continues its commitment to further improve the synergy capabilities between IBM Storage Defender, IBM Storage, and partner solutions, delivering the best solutions in the industry to maximize business continuity despite ransomware attacks and other data loss risks.
