IBM innovation with a storage platform that can turn evergreen into everblue

IBM has just announced a new way to break through storage pain and improve storage economics with data resiliency and technology innovations.

Storage Assurance

For organizations looking to improve operational agility and transform  and simplify their storage ownership experience with budget certainty,  IBM’s Storage Assurance program ensures lifetime access to IBM FlashSystem hardware and software innovations with purchasing power that protects storage investments from day one.

Flexibility: Upgrade capacity, generation or system and includes system anytime for upgrade fee with trade-in credit from 4-10 years
More Value: Get density and drive improvements overtime without large hidden fees. More HW value for less cost
Maintain your SLAs: Get Controller or Full System upgrades when needed and not just every 3 years
Always-on: Non disruptive upgrade for entire system and not just controllers when using new Flash Grid
Energy Efficient: Guaranteed as low as 1.7 W/TB
Lower lower TCO: 4 – 10 years
Scalability: Seamlessly scale your storage system as data demands grow as small as one drive at a time
More Resilient: Inline threat detection, AIOps for predictive analytics, market-leading encryption and compression, fast recovery guarantee

IBM adds differentiation and extra value to Storage Assurance with Flash Core Modules

FCM4

Next gen FCM4 provides computational data reduction and encryption with new enhanced resiliency capabilities can help in the event of a cyber-attack. The new technology enabled by FCM4 is designed to continuously monitor statistics gathered from every single I/O using machine learning models to detect anomalies like ransomware in less than a minute4.

Internal experimentation by IBM Research has demonstrated detection of ransomware within  minute of the ransomware starting its encryption process. This experiment was done on a FlashSystem 5200 with 6 FCMs with the 4.1 firmware load. The 5200 had 8.6.3 GA level software loaded. The host connected to the 5200 was running Linux with XFS Filesystem. In this case, the IBM ransomware simulator called WannaLaugh was used. Underlying system must be compatible with FCM4.1 and version 8.6.3 GA level software loaded to receive results obtained.
