Trying to use IBM MQ on Cloud

  • 1.  Trying to use IBM MQ on Cloud

    Posted Wed August 21, 2024 02:16 AM

I tried MQ on cloud a long time back and thought I would have another go with it now, so I attempted to log on and this happens:-

    Loom Video of my problem

In short, it is rather circular. I log on, it tells me that it has upgraded my account (not a surprise I guess, not used it for ages), and then it logs me out again. When I log back in the same thing happens. The pop up has two ways to close it; the X in the top right corner, or a Cancel button. Both produce the same result, I am logged out.

Can some one advise what I should do to actually get to the dashboard? I can't get past this logon loop.

    Cheers,
    Morag

    Hi Morag,
I had exactly the same problem last year (also when testing with MQonCloud).
After several days of unsuccessful attempts, the only solution I found was to use a different email address and completely recreate my account.

Did you inform IBM of the problem in any way? Did they say it couldn't be rectified?

I don't like the idea of having to make a second IBM ID.

    Cheers,
    Morag

The problem is that to open a ticket, you have to do it from the account that no longer works. I've tried it, then given up, I've got more interesting things to do.
For the record, IBM Cloud accounts aren't IBMids, but classic accounts.
And to test all the subtleties of IBM Cloud IAM, it's often necessary to have several accounts.

    Hi Morag,

Thank you for bringing this problem to our attention, we are looking into this in the MQ on Cloud team. There does appear to be an issue with your account and we are currently following up with the account management team to try and resolve. We will update on this thread when we get more detail.

    Hi Morag,

Thank you for your patience as we investigated the issue you experienced when attempting to log into MQ on Cloud. We've identified the root cause of the problem.

It appears that your account was set to a "CANCELED" state, with a sub-state of "BLOCKED_INACTIVITY." This occurred because the account was suspended by the CABS (formerly RSET) team. The suspension was due to the need for specific country-related tax information associated with your account, such as confirmation of a physical address and potentially a Tax ID, which may be required depending on the country.

Additionally, it seems that your IBMid is still recognised as a valid identity. However, due to the account being in a suspended state, the system is preventing you from accessing the dashboard, leading to the logon loop you're experiencing.

    Hi Saurav,

It is curious that this would be done without first sending a request to the user asking for such things to be added. I have never received any notification to tell me to update anything. I suspect perhaps they weren't needed when I first created the IBM Cloud ID and then the requirement was added later and perhaps I have never used the IBM Cloud account since that time (until now)?

My IBM ID has never had any problems on all the other systems where I use it.

While your explanation seems very detailed it is lacking one thing - what do I do to fix it?

    Awaiting directions.

    Cheers,

    Morag

    Hi Morag,

It's possible that when you initially created your IBM Cloud ID, these requirements were not in place, or that you may not have used the account since these updates were implemented.

Upon further investigation, it appears that your IBM Customer Number (ICN) is missing from your account, which is crucial for reinstating access. Unfortunately, without this, the only viable solution at this point is to create a new IBM Cloud account.

Please let me know if there's anything else we can assist you with.

    Best regards,

I agree, it does seem likely that these requirements were added subsequent to the creation of my IBM Cloud account.

If, as you note, it is not possible to fix this account, then there is nothing I can do with this account. Are you able to delete this IBM Cloud account without affecting my IBM ID which has the same email address? If yes, please can you do that. This would then allow me to create a new IBM Cloud account using the same email address that the old IBM Cloud account, rather than having to get a new email address in order to get a working IBM Cloud account.

However, if you cannot safely remove the IBM Cloud without affecting my IBM ID, then don't.

    Let me know.

    Cheers,
    Morag

    Hi Morag,

Following up on your issue, it appears that your IBM Cloud account with ID #1566883 has been completely disabled as of 30 June 2022. You should still be able to create a new paid IBM Cloud account using the same email address associated with your IBM ID, as relayed to me by the CABS team.

Please proceed with creating a new account by registering at the following link: https://cloud.ibm.com/registration.

    Cheers,
    Saurav

    Hello

I had similar problems to yours when I was doing this training https://learn.ibm.com/course/view.php?id=13339 where I was using Linux Ubuntu 24.04 with Chrome browser. I was only able to log in successfully using Microsoft Edge. I don't know how to explain it, but out of curiosity I tested it and it worked. I also tested it in Firefox and it didn't work. That's why I advise you to test it in Microsoft Edge.
