Ping Latency as an indicator of performance?

  • 1.  Ping Latency as an indicator of performance?

    Hello,

In the company we have a Tamino 8.2 installation. And I have a doubt about the use of the “?_diagnose=ping” command, because the Systems Dept is sending us (the app team) that the ping is responding slowly (about 8-9 sec) to notice about low performance. They are doing ping to the database periodically.

I am not sure that we can use the ping to check if Tamino is responding fast or slow. If I think in TCPIP, I know that ICMP has less priority than other traffic so the ping could be little bit slower as the load of the line increases. But, a slow ping not allways means a performance problem.

The question, is the Tamino ping’s response time a good indicator to monitorice the “health” of the database?

    Thanks.
