  • 1.  SPSS licensing issue

    Posted Tue January 23, 2024 03:25 PM

I have recently purchased SPSS Statistics for my stats college course. I have SPSS downloaded to my desktop, but I am having issues with my license wizard code. I keep trying to find a way to get another licensing code. I need assistance with finding a way tog et a new code that will work with my license wizard. I have called the support line and every time they direct me to this discussion board. If anyone can assist, please reach out. I have an assignment due by Friday. Thank you.

    Hi @morgan popolizio,
Did you purchase IBM SPSS Statistics from IBM, or from your University.  If from the latter, then you will need to follow-up with them.  The organization will have control of the authorization codes it distributes.

Pay attention to the error you are receiving:

    • Is the error in IBM SPSS Statistics, or is it in the License Authorization Wizard (LAW)?
    • The LAW will need access to modify the 'commutelicense.ini' and 'lservrc' configuration files within your SPSS Statistics installation path.  Does your executing user profile have write permission to this path and these files?
    • If the LAW says you were successful updating these files, then upon next launch SPSS Statistics fails again saying there is no license... Check the version of the license with the version of Statistics you have installed.
      • If you've installed the latest release (version 29.0.2.0) and you have a version 28.0.0.0 (or older) authorization code, it will not work.
      • Open the "C:\Program Files\IBM\SPSs Statistics\lservrc" file in a text editor.
        • Is it empty?  You had a permissions problem and were not able to update the file with the license code obtained by the LAW.
        • Does it contain a license string with comment like this: '# "1200" version "290", expires Midnight of Jan 31, 2024, exclusive'
          • The Feature code for IBM SPSS Statistics is 1200.  If your code doesn't match, you used the authorization code of a different product.
          • The Version for Statistics 29.0.x.x is "290".  For Statistics 28.0.x.x is "280", etc.  Does the value you find match the version you installed?
          • Check the Expiration date.  Has it passed?
