  • 1.  SPSS 29 - Apple Silicon?

    Posted Thu September 15, 2022 10:06 AM
Hi, I saw that SPSS 29 is now available but in reading the "what's new" page (SPSS Statistics) I didn't see any mention of a native version for Apple Silicon. Does anyone know when that might be available?

    Thank you!

    Hi, Irwin.

We've done research on Apple Silicon and it's on our radar, but no official timeline for release at this point. Internally, we are still waiting on a 3rd party dependency to produce an Apple Silicon native: GSKit, an IBM component we use for encrypting data files and SSL connections to Stats Servers, is not yet Apple Silicon native.  It needs to be native.

Hi, Rick.  I'm an IT professional at a college, and was just installing SPSS on an M1 MacBook Air; that led me to do some Googling to find out the Apple Silicon status of SPSS and I found this thread.

It's six months later; do we have any update regarding the status of GSKit recompilation?  Or do we know if SPSS 30 will be Apple Silicon native?

    Thanks,

    Adam Hauerwas

    Hi. From management:

"GSKit is not updated for Apple Silicon at this time but we are tracking it.  No ETA for an Apple Silicon native SPSS Statistics but it is on our roadmap."

Hi @Rick Marcantonio has anything moved here? Our team is loosing patience and seriously considering switching to R, which has had native Apple Silicon version of their apps available for a long time…
