Greetings, Family.
One of my users is asking about a feature he claims exists in Oracle: A sort of recycle bin for table recently dropped tables so that after the initial OhNo!second when you realize what you've just done, the table can be quickly restored. Well, I've editorialized his description somewhat but you get the idea. I told him about archecker but he knows about it and does not want to consider it, since it does take kinda long to pull the table back from the backup and then roll forward the logs entries on that table up to 1 minute before the finger-slip.
Has anyone heard of a feature like that in Informix. either currently or in the works? Otherwise, please remind me where one can enter a feature request. If you were an Informix marketing pro, how would you respond to that question? (My hat & cane, please; I need to do a tap dance.)
Of course, such a facility has its down side: It won't free up the space of that table until the "recycle bin" is emptied.
And what would you do for an inadvertent truncate the wrong table owing to a typo? Well, the analog in files would be >file and there 's no recycle help for that. There comes a point of "tough luck, friend".
