    My point is why its required (bos.rte 6.1.0.0)since my current os is AIX 5.3 and this bos file referring 6.1 base level file set.

    Any comments on this regard highly appreciated.

    You can start by running "oslevel -rl 5300-07" and you'll see the packages are missing to get it updated to TL7.

    I had some issues trying to update from TL6 sp4 to TL7 sp1. I had to remove all the packages that command showed me and it worked.
