I try to migrate a AIX 5.2 to 5.3. The migration seems to run and terminate normally, but there's a problem
    with the devices.common.IBM.mpio.rte fileset:

    • I start with oslevel -s 5200-10-04-0750. lppchk -v -f and -l doesn't show any errors.
    • The choosen methode is "Alternate Disk Migration" using NIM.
    • The NIM servers oslevel: 5300-08-01-0819, lppsource and SPOT: 5300-08
    • After the migration the target systems oslevel -s shows 5300-08-01-0819. Everything ok so far.

    ... but...

    • lppchk -v shows
lppchk: The following filesets need to be installed or corrected to bring
the system to a consistent state:

devices.common.IBM.mpio.rte 5.2.0.0 (not installed; requisite fileset)
devices.common.IBM.mpio.rte 5.2.0.106 (usr: not installed, root: COMMITTED)
devices.common.IBM.mpio.rte 5.2.0.108 (usr: not installed, root: COMMITTED)
devices.common.IBM.mpio.rte 5.2.0.110 (usr: not installed, root: COMMITTED)
    extract of alt_mig_log:

MISSING REQUISITES: The following filesets are requisites of one or more
of the selected filesets listed above. They are not currently installed
on the system. You should install these requisites to ensure that the
selected filesets function correctly. You MUST install these requisites
    before committing the selected filesets.

devices.common.IBM.mpio.rte 5.2.0.10 # MPIO Disk Path Control Module
This results in 405 not COMMITED filesets!
MPIO is not used, so I could remove the fileset. Because of non-deinstallable filesets (like bos.mp64,
bos.rte etc.) this is not possible.

    Anyone has an idea?

    Thanks

    Patrice

Actually scratch that, I suspect that even if you don't use MPIO your underlying disk subsystem drivers require the MPIO filesets to be there just in case, this is what lslpp -d devices.common.IBM.mpio.rte shows at this end,

    lslpp -d devices.common.IBM.mpio.rte Fileset Dependents ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- <Fileset> is a requisite of <Dependents> Path: /usr/lib/objrepos devices.common.IBM.mpio.rte 5.2.0.0 devices.scsi.disk.rte 5.2.0.0 devices.fcp.disk.rte 5.2.0.0 devices.scsi.disk.rte 5.2.0.10 devices.fcp.disk.rte 5.2.0.10 devices.common.IBM.scsi.rte 5.2.0.10 devices.common.IBM.scsi.rte 5.2.0.30 devices.fcp.disk.rte 5.2.0.30 devices.scsi.disk.rte 5.2.0.30 devices.common.IBM.scsi.rte 5.2.0.60 devices.scsi.disk.rte 5.2.0.75 devices.fcp.disk.rte 5.2.0.75 devices.common.IBM.scsi.rte 5.2.0.75 devices.fcp.disk.rte 5.2.0.98 devices.common.IBM.scsi.rte 5.2.0.95 devices.scsi.disk.rte 5.2.0.96 devices.pci.df1000f7.com 5.2.0.109 devices.fcp.disk.rte 5.2.0.110 devices.sas.rte 5.2.0.0 devices.iscsi.disk.rte 5.2.0.105 devices.scsi.disk.rte 5.2.0.108 devices.common.IBM.scsi.rte 5.2.0.107

Have you tried installing devices.common.IBM.mpio.rte 5.2.0.10?

    5.2 filesets on a AIX 5.3 ??

(devices.common.IBM.mpio.rte cannot be removed because of non-deinstallable dependents like bos.mp64, bos.rte etc)

if not can you do that

Obviously I did a
mistake on the first try. I hope everything is ok now.
