  • 1.  Showing Model/Data Changes

    Posted 04/03/17 12:57 PM

Has anyone ever created an infographic or some sort of dynamic web-based illustration that "shows" how the model changes with one allocation change or data change?  Wasn't sure if Apptio had done that or if anyone else had.  Nothing exact - just something hypothetical that gives the gist of how things change.  That's one of the things we struggle with because people are used to the non-TBM way -- static financial reports where prior months 'are what they are' and do not change.  However, if we back-load new data, find a mistake and correct it in prior months, or have an updated mapping that needs to go in at the beginning of the fiscal year, bam, it changes everything - ripple effect.  Some don't understand that this isn't a 'database' setup - one change and it recalculates/reallocates everything.  If you shrink dollars in one area, just like a squeeze toy, you're going to expand the dollars in another.  I've used the squeeze toy analogy haha, but that just doesn't resonate as clearly as I'd like.  Anyway, just figured I'd ask..

    Hi Jenny,

I have created Visio documents with the model and allocations represented accordingly. I made a holistic view of everything and then made multiple tabs drilling into each line. This initiative was taken on so that finance teams/application teams/service owners etc could all visually understand how the back end of Apptio works and they could then justify the reports.

    Hope this helps,

    Lauren Griessel

That sounds awesome!  Is it generic enough to share perhaps?

I did this for a custom build but I will ask around and see if someone has produced a more generic version and get back to you.

    Hi Jenny,

I have found an amazing colleague who has started this process and is willing to share. Can you send me your email and I can pass it on? They will post it on community once they are finished but he is willing to send it now so you can start using it.

    Thanks,

    Lauren
