I have a folder "Data Sources" where all data modules are stored which was created by admin.
I have hid this folder from users using "Hide this Entry" option in properties.
Now, we also have some powerusers who can upload files and create their own data modules and publish reports.
The poweruser wants to hide the folder in which they had uploaded the files & created data modules and only the reports folder should be visible to the user.
But if I give these poweruser the option of "Show hidden entries" then they will be able to see the folder("Data Sources") that was created by the admin.
Is there any way I can hide the folders that was created by admin or hide the folder based on roles?

I'm not sure there's a good way to do this. As far as hiding entries, it's an "all or nothing" as far as I know. You could try setting up a group or role that doesn't have access to the "Data Sources" folder, but I think that's going to keep them from being able to use it. It might be that you could use "traverse" and "execute" on the "Data Sources" folder to accomplish what you want, but I think you can still see the folder if it is set to traverse.

I know back in Cognos 10 we used the method at the bottom of this document. Essentially you were required to have Read access to see the Folders but the users were only given Traverse and Execute.
I just tried this now and it did work for me in Cognos 10. I've not been able to get it working in CA 11, I'll see if there is something comparable in CA11.

Hi,

IBM has implemented a feature that we can give access to users to run reports based on data modules, but can not edit or copy.

I asked IBM for it and has implemented on version 11.0.13.

You have to only grant execute and traverse to data module and data sets (case exists) and reports to users that cannot see the data.

You may apply security filters on data modules or reports, it is up to you.
