Cognos Analytics continues to make advancements in our portal experience including customization, sharing and embedding.
Share and Embed: In IBM Cognos Analytics 11.0.5 we introduced embedding and sharing content through content explorer menu (see
Sharing and Embedding Content blog for the details). In this release we enhanced this feature by adding the ability to share/embed dashboards, reports, report saved output, and story that is open, through overflow menu on Application Bar.
For reports, the default behaviour is to show the latest saved output. However, if no saved output exists, Cognos will subsequently try to run it assuming the report still exists and the user is authorized, otherwise an error will be displayed. The share URL includes any prompts and filter values.
Check Creating custom URLs link for syntax and additional details.
Alternatively, if you want to share/embed a particular report saved version, you should right click on the report from context menu go to view versions and run the version you want to share.
In this case, Cognos will either show the particular shared version or display a message if it is not available.

Custom Folder: In IBM Cognos Analytics 11.0.4 we introduced user interface extension. Extensions can be used to add and remove user interface elements, such as buttons and menus as well as define new views to extend the Cognos Analytics user interface. Extensions can also be used to replace IBM Cognos Business Intelligence portal tabs. For instance, the natural mapping of a portal tab name "HR" which contains 5 second level tabs for specific reports/dashboards, is to have "HR" button on the Navigation Bar, which opens a menu with the 5 reports/dashboards in it. Clicking on a report/dashboard opens it in the content area as it normally does.
In order to get this work done in R5 users need to work with JSON file and upload the file. We make this process simpler by providing a simple admin configuration gesture as opposed to having to upload an extension file. Custom folder allows you to define starting points for a user and eliminates the need for the Navigator portlet.
On the Manage > Accounts, click a namespace to view the list of roles for the namespace. If you click a role, the slide-out panel for that role has a Customization tab. In addition to Home page, Features and Theme that was introduced in Cognos Analytics 11.0.5 (see
Role Customization blog for details) you can now customize content. Click on Custom folder to set a custom content folder for users who have this role. When a user with this role logs in, the custom folder is displayed on the navigation bar below Team content as shown in image below.

Shortcut and create report view:You can now create a shortcut in Cognos Analytics. A shortcut is a pointer to another entry such as a report, report view, dashboard, module, or folder.
You can use shortcuts to organize information that you use regularly. For example, if you frequently use a report in Public Folders, you can create a shortcut in My Folders. In Cognos Analytics portal locate the entry you want to create a shortcut to and you see create shortcut in the context menu by right clicking on the object.
Another feature that we introduce in this release is to create a report view from context menu. Prior to release 11.0.6, you need to run a report to create a report view. In this release we add the option to create report view without running the report from context menu.
