  • 1.  DSLO on IBMi

    Posted 2 days ago
Hello, I've had some issues with some PTF files. It seems to be resolved now, but we want to create an installation medium to speed up processes on other partitions. We want a clean medium with healthy PTF files already installed. This is the first time I'll be using options 40 and 41 in the LICPGM menu. Which option do you recommend? Or am I mistaken and should I just install all the partitions from scratch?
    Thanks and regards.

    Hello

A couple of comments about using DSLO. I was used to intensively use them in the past, when I was still working, because we wanted to create DSLO based installation media for each supported release at this time and for both English and French primary languages (the most used on our partitions at this time). Because, it is quite a time consuming activity, we were creating new DSLO media only after a new cumulative availability. However, in case of intermediate PTFs with very huge impact, we could create new DSLO media to include those individual PTFs.

Primarily, we wanted to use them for release upgrades operations, so we used QRPLRELLVL profile. But, from time to time, we were using the same media for scratch installations and we never got any issue with this profile.

Before creating the media, you may want to clean the system as much as possible to avoid restoring unwanted topics (for instance in QUSRSYS and QGPL libraries). For that purpose all IP configuration was deleted before creating the media, as well.

When saving the system, at SAVSYS command prompt, you may want to omit the configuration, and when saving QUSRSYS library, you may want to omit *IMGCLG and *JOBSCD objects. We faced QUSRSYS install errors when QUSRSYS file was splitted on two distinct media by the save operation. Regarding *JOBSCD, we wanted to avoid any risk to alter the existing job schedule object at install time.

Finally, before creating the media, we were ensuring that the most up-to-date PTFs were properly installed. That includes cumulative, all groups, and all PTFs that we can find on Recommended Fixes web page, and that does not include defective PTFs (and, therefore, includes replacement PTFs when available).
