Branch from a Specific Period

  • 1.  Branch from a Specific Period

Is it possible to create a branch off a specific period? I need to complete a proof of concept against our 2018 budget but we have 2019 open also and I don't want to carry this data over to the branch

Could you just create the branch as normal and then change the time settings once it's created? Our branches don't have the same time settings or report date settings (Calculation Settings) as the Trunk so I guess you can just change the end of the project once you have the branch open?

That's what I was thinking Oli (& will probably end up doing it that way) just wanted to see if there was a smarter way of doing it

Ah ok! I'm not sure there's a way to do it automatically, but it would be nice to be able to choose what months you take into the branch. Might be a pain in the end though when you go to merge things back in if they're only affecting one month in the branch and need to impact everything in the trunk.

    Hi,

maybe that answers your question already:

How to create a branch from a past build that did not have a custom tag applied

If the build in the branch is then based on an older build version, the 2019 data should not be there.

@Julie Batty @Oliver Smith - did y'all find a way to create a branch from a specific build?  I'm clicking the link that Rene Rahn posted, but it's not working - shows Jive maintenance.. 😕

Hi @Jenny Franklin Rene had linked to product documentation that moved to Help Center. You can find the post he referenced here :-)

Indeed, what a great reference! I am sure @Gulcin Menekse taught us how to do that sometime ago, and yet I couldn't find it until I read the article above. Thanks to the indefatigable @Rhonda Keller for digging it out!

@Julie Batty, you can do it. If you practice tagging your check in history, it will be even easier.

Click on Check in History. Then right click on the tab and you select 'verbose view' which will list a view as below. Look for the time period that you want to use. Then just right click to use the menu to create the branch. Tagged check-ins are highlighted in green.

    Good luck.

Thank you @Tony Wong the verbose view is the part that I always forget :)

@Jenny Franklin Yes we did eventually get help with this from Gulcin - this is amazing coincidence you commented on this recently as I had to do the same thing yesterday but couldn't remember how, luckily enough everyone commenting on the original posted helped me a second time around
