    Yes it can be done.
    • Put your AIX 5.3 disk 1 into your cdrom,
    • reboot your system from the cdrom,
    • do not accept the default install settings (that might over right your existing AIX 6.1 install)
    • use the menus to select your second hdisk
    • run the install to that disk

If you need more specific instructions, let me know.

Thanks for those replies. I have my AIX6.1 on hdisk1 and hdisk0 is in inactive state currently. when I will install 5.3 on disk1 it will not effect my AIX 6.1?
Also can you be more specific on
"use the menus to select your second hdisk"

And yes, this machine is used for testing purpose so no big deal.

I was under the impression you wanted to have a second installation of AIX. If you want the AIX 6.1 environment, you boot off of hdisk1. If you want the AIX 5.3 environment you boot off of hdisk0.

In order for me to be more specific I would need to capture some of the installation screens because I do not recall specific options just from memory. I think it is pretty straight forward. Using the menus you want to select the options to change the hdisk that will be used for the installation.

If I find the time today, I will capture some screens for your reference. If you don't want to wait, put your AIX 5.3 CD in the cdrom and boot the system from the CDrom.

Have you done an AIX installation before from CD? Or NIM?
