This is a standalone box no NIM access and no HMC. I am attempting to put 5.2 back on the box so I can do the upgrade properly, but the installation CD shows hdisk0 and hdisk1 as unbootable. Since there is no OS on the box I am at a loss as to how to wipe the VGDA (and/or ODM entries) so I can do a nice fresh clean install. I have searched around the internet and read thru all my course books, but can't seem to find the answer. I am pretty sure I am just missing something obvious, but I have tried everything I can think of. I am kinda new to AIX so any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Try booting from the AIX 5.2 install media or a diagnostic CD and use the service aids.

Or try with a usb floppy drive and the service processor method.

However, when using an AIX microcode update cd from IBM it works fine (but not to the level I want/need). It would seem that my issue is how I am writing the file to the CD. If you have any hints or tips/tricks please let me know before I enumerate all possible combinations on a spindle of bland cdr's..

They already said the firmware is pre 5.3 support.
All power 4 hardware is much the same - common firmware.
