I setup my lpp and spot sources, and did an rte force install. they reboot and load up the tftp boot file and then the kernel and then they just sit there. And when I check against the nim server there are no connections to it.

So I gave up with the nim server and decided I would install manually as these need to be done by the end of the day.

Now when I put the cd(5.3 tl5 that I will update to tl8) in, and boot from it, it does the same thing as when I was trying to install nim. It starts off ok, starts reading the cdrom and then after it says it's loading the kernel. Just sits there.

Any chance this is because of the ssd's?

    TIA

It seems to boot and start the install just fine if I use one of my 6.1 cd's. Any idea why it won't take 5.3 tl5?

the specs in front of me but the first Power6 we built had to have at least TL6/7 (can't remember which). Look up your blade model on the IBM website to see
what its min requirements are. TL5 is really old.

I am pretty sure this will solve your problem but it is always nice to see that confirmation for the next person that might run into this problem. :-)

Before it would stop after the "kernel debugger setting: enabled". Now it gets a couple of lines further but does the same thing. cdrom light stops blinking and then just sits at the console.
    This is with a 5.3 TL8 sp1 dvd that I downloaded.

Going to try and setup a nim resource from it and do a push installation again... though I don't expect that to go any better. It's the only thing I can think of doing at this point.

Both blade and amm firmware levels were at there highest.
5.3 TL8 dvd download ended up being corrupt, but still booted to the screen and then hung, just like 5.3 TL 5.
5.3 TL8 cd download seems fine, but still boots up and hangs at the same point as before.

IBM tech told me that since the http://www-03.ibm.com/servers/eserver/serverproven/compat/us/nos/ibme.html doesn't say 5.7 or later, it only supports 5.7 and had me download those cd's.
While downloading the cd's another IBM tech contacted me and said that 5.8 was definately supported, but we could never figure out how to get it to boot.

Installed fine with 5.3 TL7 and then did upgrade to TL8.

    Thanks for everyones help.
