Db2 Connect Packaging, Configuration, and What’s New

IBM encourages Db2 customers to move away from Db2 Connect Servers and "fat" Db2 Clients towards more lightweight Db2 Data Server Driver packages. This presentation will help you select which Data server Driver package to install and how to easily configure it for Db2 for z/OS connectivity. We will also cover recent significant enhancements related to Db2 for z/OS connectivity.

Monitoring Db2 Connect with Db2 System Profile

Isn’t it nice when you already have something needed to accomplish monitoring tasks? When it comes to Db2 Connect, you do. The Db2 System Profile Facility, which has been in Db2 for z/OS for at least 5 releases now can help. This presentation will cover the primary use cases with some specific examples. It will also highlight how this facility can help with other configuration and customization use cases.

Db2 Java Performance Best Practices Version 10

This presentation details Db2 and Java performance best practices and discusses how to get your processing done 32x faster.  Db2 coding best practices, java class frameworks and debugging/tracing practices will be presented that can immediately identify your performance bottlenecks. After this discussion you will be able to dramatically improve your Db2 access, Java runtimes, minimize CPU and quickly access billions of rows with the best performance possible.

  1. Understand the Db2 coding best practices to enhance performance, avoid problems and enhance debugging.
  2. Realize all the application coding options and java class frameworks that can help and hinder performance.
  3. Realize the debugging methods available, the java tracing tools and the easy and fast best practices to find performance issues.
  4. Understand the standard performance characteristics and special java statistics to monitor to determine quickly whether a performance problem or improvement opportunity exists.
  5. How to bring some of these java performance tuning best practices to your shop and enhance your standard development procedures.

Db2 z/OS 12+/13 Database Design and Application Performance: Features and Usage

With every new release of Db2 we look to see what features will allow us to improve the capabilities and performance of our existing applications as well as the availability of our data. We also have to plan to utilize new features in our development efforts. This presentation takes a look at the features in Db2 12 (+FLs) and 13 that will improve our performance and provide us with maximum data availability as well as advanced application development. We will be focusing on features (including those in the most current function level) that can be utilized by DBAs and application programmers.
