    Hi all,

Is the Informix Standard Engine still available or not? If not, what is the nearest thing to it available today?

I would like to do some 4GL programming - where can I get a system which allows this?

    TIA and rgs,

    Paul...

Informix SE does still exist, but you may want to try IDS, instead.  All versions of IDS work with 4GL.

There's a limited resource version you can have for free, so you really can't argue over the price point.  If you don't already have a 4GL license, that has a price tag.  If you want a graphical version, you can get 4J's Genero or there's an open source free version, called Aubit.

I would spin up a Linux server to run it on.

    As Everett said,

You'd better use IDS Developer Edition which is a free edition. Standard Engine is still sold, but it is not cheap at all

As per the 4GL language, you should definitely take a look at Querix Lycia!

It is  100% based on the 4GL language you love, but mounted on a modern architecture, all GUI of course with lots of "extended commands" you have been dreaming about with legacy 4GL, and featuring many today's functionality which will make you 4GL app in line with what the global market offers.

( and also not so expensive as other similar products ).

Allow some time to check it. And I won't receive a dime on selling it to you, I am just in love with the product

    Eric,

Is Querix Lycia downwards compatible with Informix 4GL?

Yes, all Classic 4GL code will compile and run correctly under Querix Lycia. The only exceptions would be very old code last compiled on v7.30 that might depend on a handful of bugs in that and earlier releases which were fixed in v7.31 & v7.32 of Classic 4GL, but that would be the same issue when upgrading to the latest release of Classic 4GL (7.50?).

You can use your existing .per files or import them into Lycia's forms painter and modernize them.

    Hi,

Yes Informix SE ( standard engine) is still sold and works just fine the way it is supposed to work. It has not evolved for some time now, but still very reliable and you can use Informix 4gl with of course.
Of course nothing to compare to informix IDS.

    Hello Paul,

You should consider having a look at Genero Enterprise BDL, it's 100% compatible with I4GL, with marvelous additional features.
