Been looking at lots of documentation for SMT-2 recently, and just wanted to throw a question out to see if anyone has any experience positive or negative. It was introduced with z13 to basically allow you to run two threads per processor, and IBM has been very clear that experience will vary based on workload, and it was really optimized for quick Db2 DDF threads. We did some testing many years back at my old employer, huge DDF user, and didn't see benefit. Another company I am working with just did some testing on a workload that I actually expected to be negative based on what they are doing, and it was not good, no shock.
So the question to Db2 Customers out there, have any of you actually implemented SMT-2 in your production environment and seen benefits?
