There were a couple of questions that were asked during the presentation today. Here is a copy of all of the Q&A:
Question 1: In DPF balanced HA configuration, does pacemaker automatically resize bufferpool and other Db2 memory area fit system memory as there are more number of DB partitions running on each surviving hosts after partitions are redistributed?
Answer 1: For the "balanced HA" configuration, you must size your instance memory size with the fact that partitions may failover in mind. That is you need to configure the partitions to leave room for other partitions to start on the local host. It does not automatically resize for you at this point.
Question 2: If we have only 2 nodes, is Qdevice mandatory and do we need a 3rd host for setting up Qdevice?
Answer 2: The Qdevice is required for fencing functionality. So if you have just two nodes and there is a split brain (network partition), the nodes can't communicate to each other. They can't actually tell which host should stay up and which host should get fenced. So you need the Qdevice there as an arbitrator to determine who stays up and who goes down. And yes, the Qdevice should be on a 3rd host.
Big thanks to @Gerry Sommerville for answering those questions during the webinar.
