The manual says you should shutdown the primary server before putting the secondary to standard mode,
because having two standard servers will break the consistency of the HDR.
You cannot convert a standard server to secondary again if it has been online, that can only be done
if the server has not touched any data since the connection was interrupted.
When you are planning to not shutting down the primary, you should convert it to standard mode as well,
which will disconnect the secondary, maybe you will need to re-attach the RSS, but I don't think so.
This would result in having two standard servers (one backed up with the RSS peer), which are not
connected to each other any more.
If that is the plan (for whatever reason), this should work, but data will be different as the old primary is still
active.
You might consider setting up a new secondary server on a different hardware or converting the RSS
to a secondary in order to have redundancy as before.
When your intention is to start with the old secondary as a base for ER, this should be doable as well.

Subject: HDR to Standard
Hello,
We have an HA array with primary, HDR, RSS
We'd like to disconnect the HDR and make it standard
But depends on this doc the condition is:
Database server type can be changed from secondary to standard only if HDR is turned off on the secondary database server. HDR is turned off when either the Primary database server is down or Primary database server is converted to standard mode.
But we don't want to turn the primary off because this is the prod environment and neither standard because of the RSS connected.
So, is there any other way to change the HDR from secondary to standard?
Thanks
