We know that user management can be a little complex. Let's take a look at what's in Cloud Pak for Data now.

🎟 For 1 ticket, if you're someone who manages users, what do you want to see first in your user management tool? Do you get sufficient info from the different tabs in the attached screenshots?

Hi Julia:   We are an IBM team using DataStage CP4D. Our Admin is attempting to add users, however we do not see the "Manage Users" screen. We only see a list of 2 users but no place to Manage them. We want to add users in a restricted role (Create/Execute jobs) but no admin privileges.

That link is not working  https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/SSQNUZ_3.5.0/cpd/admin/users.html.  Is it possible that it was moved to another location?

    Thanks

You need to be able to bulk import users; better way to filter users; display information on which services they have access to and which role they have for this service; being able to deactivate users without removing them

To add to Dorothee's comments, bulk actions would be great. Select multiple users at once and change their access level, or deactivate them, or perhaps even send them an email with important information (like outages, upgrades, password changes, etc.)

I would strongly recommend using user groups whenever possible for users with similar access requirements.

Although you can use the internal database to manage users' passwords, it's a best practice to use an enterprise-grade password management solution. For details, see Managing users: https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/SSQNUZ_3.5.0/cpd/admin/users.html.

I'd like a 'last sign on' column on the user panel. Then I'd easier know, if this user is inactive and needs to be removed.

A roles + permissions information for each service and things like privacy level, etc would be great. Could be something you can see when you click into the user.

@Shawn Lunny some services have their own user management beyond what is provided by the platform. For example, with Data Virtualization and Db2 Warehouse, you can specify who can access the service or service instance.

Any service that has additional user management requirements should include that information under their Administering content.

However, right now, you can't see any service-specific permissions from a user's profile. Are you asking for a consolidated view of their platform permissions and their service or service instance permissions?

managing users here gives users access to CP4D, right?   Then users need access to Cloud Object Storage, Watson *, and any other service that is in CP4D.  To me it would be easier to manage all access to everything in one area.  If I add a user as editor here they should be given access to everything associated to this CP4D instance as editor.  or give the option to break out the permissions individually.  It is rather confusing and hard to manage.  thanks!

It would be great if the "Last Login" of user is incorporated in user management tool.

And do we have any API calls to track user activity like login/logout history or last login information in Cloud Pak for Data ?.  If so, could you please provide relevant information.

    Ravi,
Correct, the zen-audit is currently the only supported mechanism in CP4D from which user login/logout information is available.

    Hello Shilpi,

Yes, we would like to collect inactive users info from CP4D. So we are looking for a parameter (preferably "Last Login Time").

From the responses I have seen we need to enable audit logs, however I'm looking for a parameter without  enabling auditing service. So could you please let me know your inputs.

Hi Ravi - Also, I wanted to share this update from my team.

We do not store these last login timestamps yet. This would change in future where we plan to record some activity and even report back on login. We are discussing  this - do not have concrete timeline  but i'll soon share it.

    Regards,
    Shilpi
