Hi Steve, here are some good reads for the network architecture:
https://cloud.ibm.com/docs/vmwaresolutions?topic=vmwaresolutions-design_physicalinfrastructure
https://cloud.ibm.com/docs/vmwaresolutions?topic=vmwaresolutions-design_virtualinfrastructure
https://cloud.ibm.com/docs/vmwaresolutions?topic=vmwaresolutions-nsx-t-design
Public IP addresses are allocated for your hosts but are not configured in ESXi. Generally speaking the hosts themselves are not expected to be
addressable
on the public network, but their public interfaces are active and provide public access to workloads running on the hosts.
