  • 1.  Connecting CA to PA Cube

    Posted 16 days ago

    Hi BA community,

We have tried connecting CA to an existing PA cube but have struggled to leverage the pixel-perfect reporting in CA. For some reason, CA struggles to interpret the time dimension, it also auto-aggregates measures, and other dimensions when building grid-type reports.

I believe I'm missing a setting or configuration. On the other side, I can rebuild the PA Cube which I have done a few times in testing. I have tried flatting the cube by combining year and month dimensions into a single time, removing a version dimension by adding it into the measure dim. All of this and I'm still struggling to build reports.

One point to note is that I have a deep cost centre and account hierarchy in separate dimensions which seems to cause some problems when stacking these in reports in CA.

Do you have any advice on using CA on PA effectively, or should I stick to websheets in PA?

    Regards

    Francois,

The last time I dealt with this issue was in ancient history. Someone else can validate if this still applies (I believe it does).

Check to see if the cube has a TIME_DIMENSSION assigned to it.

To do this, click on the three vertical dots (ellipses) to the right of the cube name in the PAW navigation pane, and choose Properties in the context menu. In the Value column, click on Select dimension on the TIME_DIMENSSION Property name row and choose the cube dimension that is the time dimension. While you are here, you should also choose the MEASURES_DIMENSION

Once these are populated, you must save to disk and then republish the package ensuring that these two properties are identified in the package.

If this is all in order, then there is a different issue to which I am not familiar.

You are not alone. CA and PA do not play well together. Their connectivity is difficult at best. I wrote a blog about it a while ago (https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/cognos-analytics-planning-why-still-so-hard-ryan-clapp/). Last I checked, little has changed.
