  • 1.  Cannot create new reports after upgrading to Cognos 11.2.4

    I found that after successful installation and configuration of 11.2.4 (new install), I am able to run the existing reports but not able to create new reports. When I drag query items from a package into a list and run a report, it keeps on running also noted the same problem with running tabular data at the query level of the existing report even though I am able to run the report.

    Please suggest what could have gone wrong.

    Hi Mack,

    usually the spinning wheel appears when cookies and cached data from old websites are used - at least that's my experience. Have  you tried to empty all you cookies and cache files from the browser?

    If that does not help: is it a new server/machine and the network is running fine? I had a problem this week with a students laptop that couldn't access Cognos via LAN but through WIFI. The network config was ok but a driver was too old for the Ethernet adapter. Sometimes its worth checking on network settings too.

    and if that doesn't help: do others have the same problem? Is that issue related to some specific models or appears it with all models?

    Hi Mack, 

    Did you try to start CA in facotiry mode? Maybe some outdated extension is causing this.

    Hi Robert,

    It is not an issue with Brower cookies and cache as checked nor do I think it is a network issue (yes it is a new server and I will check). I am still having the issue of not been able to run new reports created. Please suggest.

    Next step from my side would be the same as Philipp Hornung has already mentioned: try out the Factory Mode by adding "?factoryMode=true" to your CA URL.

    Hi Mack,

    Did you try to run / create reports based on the samples? Most of datasources are not related to any database, it would rule out network issues.

    Do you have the same issue with other users? What was your previous release?

    Hi Patrick,

    It does not look like a network issue because I have the same problem with running newly created reports from sample models (godatawarehouse, gosales) as  well. It does not look like a user level issue as I have sys admin permissions; however; I just need to confirm other users have the same problem.

    Assuming it is not a user specific issue, could you suggest what could could be causing this?. Another finding is that I am not able to run newly created reports but when I create a dashboard (New -> dashboard), it works showing data. Please suggest

    Have you tried the factoryMode already?

    Another option would be to run a consistency check on the content store. There are task to be run in the old administration console:
    And I would suggest to have a look at the cognosserver.log and xqelog_xxx.xml as well.

    Hi Robert,

    I have run the new Cognos instance (11.2.4) url using the factory mode and got the following error (see below). To double check, I ran the current cognos environment url (11.1.7) using factory mode and got a similar error. The factory mode is not working as expected. Please suggest.

    404 - File or directory not found.

    The resource you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.

    The current version we are using is 11.1.7 while the new version is 11.2.4. However, it is not over the top installation but on a separate server.
