I had looked at recent versions with the same issue, so glad to know that it was an error. I'll work with our Administrator to check on when we may have an upgrade. Regarding your last question, I'm not seeing the rest of the fields when looking up at the properties of a dataset, within a Data Module. This is not really a big issue, other than wondering if I didn't have the requisite rights, but since I still can't do this in version 11.0, it's not an issue for me. Thanks for your assistance and can just wait on the next upgrade for this issue.

No, that's the right context. They were not editable in 11.0 but they were made editable in 11.1.x.
I just checked the 11.1 and 11.2 documentation and they say the same thing as the 11.0 documentation, which is incorrect. I've logged a defect for the technical writers to correct. Thank you for drawing this to my attention.
By 'remaining other fields' do you mean properties such as usage, item list, and data cache?
I am able to see them when I select a data set. What are you actually selecting?

Hello Ian,
I'm reading the document called 'IBM Cognos Analytics Version 11.0 Data Modeling Guide' and on page 20, I see the following excerpt:
Identifier
For tables and columns, the property value is inherited from the source and cannot be changed in the data
module. The column or table Identifier value can be, but not always is, the same as the column or table
name (Label).
You can view the Identifier property in the Advanced section of the Properties panel.
I'm not sure if like you said, I'm reading it in the wrong context. I'm trying to update the Data Module directly and not through a report or dashboard. I'm wondering if it's a permissions issue since I don't see the remaining other fields.

It's a typo. I meant data set.
Can you cite the documentation in question please. It's possible that it is talking about identifiers in other contexts. For example, you cannot edit the identifier of something from a data module in a dashboard but you can while editing the module.
Here's a link to something which I wrote about identifiers.

Hello Ian,
Not sure what you mean by query set? I'm using a dataset in my Data Module. Can I update the identifier when bringing in a data set. I read some documentation where you couldn't, so not completely sure if this is something to pursue. Any help would be appreciated.

The screen capture that Pantelis used is that of the properties pane of either a query set or query subject in a data module.

Can you let me know what role this requires? I see that I can only see the 'Identifier' field and not change it. I also don't see the rest of the fields below it, so not sure if I have the correct rights.

Dear Cesar,
You can change the identifier by selecting the data set in data module and select properties after right click on it. Then you must expand the Advanced section where you may find the Identifier property. Check also the screenshot I uploaded.
Kind Regards,

Subject: Identifying Dataset Name from Data Module in Query
I'm fairly new to Data Module and built some Data Sets that I imported into a Data Module. The question I have is that when I try to add columns to a query, the column name is referenced by the identifier name instead of the data set name. This make it difficult for determining which dataset I used. I guess the first question I should ask is if it's possible to change the identifier on a data set thats been placed in a Data Module. I'm assuming if I can change this, then this will show up on my query. This is how it's currently showing on my query '[C].[data-module-name].[Query1_0_18].[AccountId]. I would like to have the dataset name in place of 'Query1_0_18]. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated and save me a lot of time.
