  • 1.  User unable to create short cut in her My Content

I have a user that is trying to create a shortcut in her My Content that points to a report in Team Content (she has access to the location in Team Content).  I wanted to go to her My Content area (similar to accessing My Folders in 10.x Cognos) to see what content she has in this area.  I assume I'd go to Cognos Admin and locate the user via LDAP security.  I'm able to get this far and find the user. However I don't see anywhere that a folder shows for this user that I could go to and view her content.  Does anyone know if this is still an option in Cognos 11.0.10?

If I correctly understand the problem at hand, the user wants to create a shortcut to a report in her my content.   The report exists in a folder in team content.

There is a method to perform the action which I believe your user wishes to perform.  I did it with 11.0.11 (I don't have a CA server which is earlier) but I believe the action would be possible in 11.0.10.

    1. The user should navigate to the folder in team content where the report is located.
    2. Select the report and invoke the context menu.
    3. Choose create shortcut.
A dialog with the title create shortcut: {report name} will appear.
It will have a list of the objects which are in the current folder.
    4. Click on the my content button in the dialog
The list of objects will change to display those of the user's my content.
    5. Press the create shortcut button.
The shortcut will be created in the user's my content.

    Hope that helps.

Thank you for your response, Ian. I'm familiar with the steps to create the shortcut in Cognos 11.0.10.  I was just looking for a way to browse to the users 'My Content' (prior to Cognos 11 this was My Folders) to see what content she has in her My Content folder area.  I did that in Cognos 10.x through administration/security but am not having any luck finding a way to do the same in Cognos 11.

It is still an option. The steps in Cognos 11 is the same as in Cognos 10.
You have to go to the old Cognos 10 Administraton console from the Manage menu. Find the user an click on the user.
There you should se My Folder and My Watch Items. If there is nothing there it is probably because the user haven't been logged into Cognos yet, they are created at the first login. You can then click on My Folders to view the content.

    Hi Betina!
If you need to, you can create the User profile from that screen as well if the user has never logged in, and then the name should become hyperlinked.  Click that hyperlink and you'll be able to browse their My folder.  The only issue is how you can copy/paste the shortcut.  What you'll want to do is:
    1. From the portal, paste a shortcut into a personal folder that you can access while logged in, such as your own
    2. Get to the LDAP user list via Admin console -> Security
    3. Click your profile and browse to your folder and copy or cut the shortcut
    4. Browse to the target user's folder and paste
I JUST did this for a client and it worked - you can NOT copy from the portal and then paste to the Admin console like you could in 10.2.
    Hope that helps!
