UDA-SQL-0023 connection to the database has been terminated error

  • 1.  UDA-SQL-0023 connection to the database has been terminated error

    Posted Mon January 11, 2021 10:17 AM
    Hello,

First time posting here. We upgraded to Cognos 11.1.7 recently. Earlier on when testing, things seemed fine. But this week, when running reports we are seeing this error quite often. But the reports run fine when we try again - some times have to try again 2-3 times.

UDA-SQL-0023 The connection to the "(database name)" database has been terminated due to an unrecoverable error.ORA-03114: not connected to ORACLE

Could some one please help out? I am not sure if this is update related. When searching for this issue online, there were various suggestions. Some suggested it could be a firewall issue, some suggested update would fix this.

    Thanks,
    Mike

    Hello Mike,

the upgrade could be relevant when
Beyond that any other reason that close the connection has to be further analysed:
    • different timeout settings: Cognos vs.Oracle
      • Oracle's timeouts should be set higher than for Cognos
    • new environment/ machine where firewalls may have to be re-configured to not block or close idle connections
And last try to find patterns:
    • only specific reports run into this error
    • only certain users hit the problem
    • it happens on specific time
      • other processes that come into play, like backup
      • processes that exclusively block Oracle (ETL)

Unfortunately there's not one solution to it. Further investigation is needed.

I hope this gives some ideas what could be the cause and the solution.
    Regards
    Gertrud
