IBM Secure Gateway has been announced for deprecation (End of Support) on October 26, 2024 (https://ibm.biz/ibmsg-announce). IBM Satellite Connector is the new and improved solution offered by IBM for secure connections. In response to this strategic direction, both Planning Analytics and Cognos Analytics are moving towards Satellite Connector to deliver private and secure connections to on-premise data for our customers.
IBM Satellite Connector is IBM’s new and improved VPN tunneling technology. In comparison to Secure Gateway, the Satellite Connector has no bandwidth egress limits and includes support for the latest generation of VPC networking, a greater number of client connections for client-side high availability and more!
We are working as quickly, but as carefully as possible to ensure a successful transition for all our customers. The following FAQ provides an overview of some key information you should reference as we make this transition.
When will the Satellite Connector implementation in Planning Analytics on Cloud (PAoC) and Cognos Analytics on Cloud (CAoC) be available?
IBM is working towards implementing the Satellite Connector within our product releases for both PAoC and CAoC by June 30, 2024.
What will happen to my existing IBM Secure Gateway Connections when I transition to IBM Satellite Connector?
Existing IBM Secure Gateway connections will be migrated to IBM Satellite Connector by our teams in the background as we deploy the appropriate Planning Analytics and Cognos Analytics releases associated with the Satellite Connector implementation to your environments.
Customers will need to install and configure the Satellite Agent and set up their endpoints and ACLs. Satellite Connector agents are like Secure Gateway clients in that they are locally installed to establish a connection.
We will provide enablement materials and media to help install and configure the Satellite Agents with your new Satellite Connections. This process will be similar to installing and configuring the Secure Gateway Client. We will be sharing more on the technical and implementation details in an upcoming update.

How different is the user experience of IBM Satellite Connector compared to IBM Secure Gateway in Cognos and Planning Analytics?
Our goal with this transition is minimal customer impact and that includes making things as familiar as possible. The user interfaces and flows associated will closely resemble the existing experience with IBM Secure Gateway today to ensure a smooth transition for users.
How will existing customer be notified when we are ready to migrate users to IBM Satellite Connector?
We are looking to provide both in-product notifications and update actions in addition to external communication in the form of blogs, newsletter updates etc.
What is the timeline for existing customers to move to IBM Satellite Connector from Secure Gateway?
Our deadline for all customers of Cognos Analytics and Planning Analytics to transition IBM Satellite from IBM Secure Gateway is September 30, 2024. This will give us some time to address anything needed to ensure a successful transition prior to the deprecation date of IBM Secure Gateway.
What will happen to existing IBM Secure Gateway Connections after June 30, 2024?
Existing IBM Secure Gateway connections will remain active until a customers’ environment has been migrated to IBM Satellite Connector or until September 30, 2024. Customers can create and delete gateways up to this date.
What will happen to new customers after June 30, 2024?
All new customers of Planning Analytics on Cloud and Cognos Analytics on Cloud will receive IBM Satellite connector bundled with their offering once IBM Satellite has been implemented in our offerings and made generally available.
When is IBM going to begin transitioning existing clients to IBM Satellite Connector?
Our plan is to begin transitioning existing customers of Planning Analytics on Cloud as early as possible once available. The latest target to begin customer migrations is July 1,2024.
When can you expect detailed information on the implementation and execution details and timelines?
We are working diligently towards availability of IBM Satellite in both Cognos and Planning Analytics. We plan on sharing more details on technical, implementation and enablement details in April 2024.
