You're right. A more thorough clean up within /opt/freeware and links in /usr/bin to freeware was required even after all the rpms were removed. There was a lot of old files in there. Having %_install_script_path set in /usr/opt/rpm/lib/rpm/macros wasn't helping. I chose to just clean up the old binaries, ...
