Business Engagement platform
With over 200 mil APIs in use for businesses today, and the rapidly growing scale of business APIs with 57% of the internet traffic comprising of API requests , creating a platform, that extends across channels and can be reused across integration portfolios is a strategic need of the hour. API providers lack visibility into business events triggered by their APIs and critical business outcomes fall off the consumer community’s radar.
Delivering intelligent and real-time notifications with a robust framework to enrich the API provider-consumer interaction, Business Engagement , unleashes a powerful socialization platform within API Connect, tailored to provide a consistent and seamless community experience. The core capability of this feature is to leverage API Connect’s Analytics as the largest source of data to create actionable insights that can influence critical business decisions.
According to app marketing statistics, notifications serve as a valuable channel for information and alerts, enabling API engagement and increasing it by 45%. 40% more users are likely to interact with real-time notifications for driving business outcomes, than opening emails.
Notifications framework
IBM API Connect has notifications points to send emails from the API Management plane. The developer portal and the management control plane are limited in their capability set today to track API activity like API usage patterns, API performance, call volume etc. as it happens. A new robust framework to enrich the API Connect platform by enabling connectivity and consistency of gathering data from API Analytics and empowering business teams to act on timely notifications is the backbone of Engagement Analytics.
This simplifies management and control of notifications from all sectors of the API platform and is foundational to leverage insights from API Analytics, Governance, Testing, Validation and Security.
Engagement in IBM API Connect
Today IBM is announcing the general availability of the engagement feature in IBM API Connect, our market-leading and award-winning API management platform. Engagement is built on a powerful Analytics engine offering business insights that allow business units to action events in real-time.
Let’s walk through the highlights of the Engagement capabilities now available within IBM API Connect:
Provides a unified solution for sending out business level activity to all parties
Activity-based notifications across a range of Consumer and Provider roles can be sent out. Notification providers can create custom rules in accordance with their KPIs and set thresholds to trigger notifications with customized messages. The platform equips providers with controls to define your own events and enable or disable triggers. It allows notification receivers to configure these notifications and set their delivery preferences based on their role and level of access.

Enhances observability of APIs
A key capability of API Connect’s Engagement is to sift through all the occurrences to an API event in the API ecosystem, surface analytics data and format the same for a wide range of destination targets that can feed your internal Business Intelligence systems and observability workflows through the rule sets you create.

The Engagement feature is now available in IBM API Connect 10.0.9.0. Learn more about API Connect offering options to see which plan is right for you. Or sign up for a live demo of IBM API Connect to experience engagement in action.
