Analytics Revamp in API Connect v10.0.5

As part of a delivering a robust API Lifecycle and Management we have a commitment to delivering tooling that provides the ability to collect and analyze analytics data. The goal has and continues to give Developers and Product Managers alike tooling in IBM API Connect to understand their API traffic patterns, latency, consumption, and more to make data driven insights into their API initiatives. Over the course of IBM API Connect v10/v2018 storage & analysis was provided as a pre-integrated ELK stack (Elastic, Logstash, and Kibana) for on-platform analytics, configurable 3-party offload, and the option to use both on-platform and offload jointly. In order to provide a more unified and native experience starting in IBM API Connect v10.0.5 we are introducing a new on-platform Analytics stack based on IBM Carbon UX, Logstash, and OpenSearch.

What's New:

Moving to a new stack has given us the opportunity to streamline the Analytics experience to enable users access analyze analytics data easier. In the past Analytics has only been available from within a single catalog or space and now you will now also be able have NEW access an Analytic Service data across multiple Catalogs in a Provider Organization and across multiple Provider Organization from the Cloud Manager.

What's Changed:

Users will immediately notice gone are slow loading Kibana screens and having to understand complex lucene query syntax. This will make it easier for Business users and API Managers to start exploring API usage patterns to enable future investments.  Kibana is replaced with NEW highly responsive IBM Carbon UIs and a tailored Search/Filters. A set of base dashboards match what we shipped pre-10.0.5 with more dashboards planned for future releases. The new filter/search will also see additional enhancements. Share dashboard ideas in the comments!

What's Removed:

  • The upgrade to v10.0.5.0 or later will not retain existing analytics data previously stored in Elasticsearch. To retain your analytics data plan to export it before upgrade. For instructions on exporting, see Additional considerations for upgrade to v10.0.5. Import of analytics data is not supported.
  • Creating Custom Visualizations was provided by features in Kibana no longer available. As such Creating/Import/Export of Custom Visualizations are no longer provided. This can be accomplished by leveraging the Analytics Offload to your system of choice to create custom visualizations.
  • The previous platform API, CLI, and directly query the Elasticsearch has been removed. Replaced with a new Product API and CLI.

Hi Dan,

My team and I long for the days of the "slow loading Kibana screens" vs the new UI.

When are we likely to see improvements in the new Analytics UI ?

Happy to delve into more detail about what is lacking but I'm sure you and your team would be aware.
