API Connect Consumer Catalog

The Consumer Catalog was introduced in v10.0.8.0 as a practical tool for internal developers. With its capabilities extended in v10.0.8.1 to support all user registries, it offers the essential features required for API development without requiring a full developer portal.

The Consumer Catalog offers core functionalities such as product subscription management, application management, and API testing. Due to being designed primarily for internal use, it lacks the customization and branding options provided by a developer portal. The Consumer Catalog also lacks consumer organization management features, such as the capability to change the organization’s name or invite new members. Although users cannot invite members, API Manager admins can still invite organization owners to sign up. For scenarios that require customization, large API catalogs, or consumer organization management, the Developer Portal remains the optimal choice.

Note: If you have a portal active on a catalog, email links will send users to the portal instead of the Consumer Catalog. A full list of limitations can be found in the link below.

While the Consumer Catalog offers fewer features, the benefit comes from allowing you to reduce the number of internal portals you manage. It also has a simplified web application design which results in lower resource usage, so your remaining portals will have more resources available and operate more efficiently. Additionally, managing fewer portals can simplify your workload and make future upgrades more manageable.

By default, the Consumer Catalog is enabled on all catalogs. You can find the option to enable or disable it along with the Consumer Catalog URL in the Portal section of your catalog settings. To stay informed of any updates and for additional information, be sure to check the link below.
