Undisputed, really?
Yes, really. IDC reports IBM's market share in API Management is almost twice the nearest competitor, with the highest growth rate of the top 3 vendors.
How is API gateway revenue counted?Virtually every other API Management vendor only sells their gateway with their API Management solution. So, when their revenue numbers are being totaled by IDC, you are seeing 100% of their gateway revenue in the calculation, along with their API Management revenue. This is in line with IDC's market share methodology.
IBM on the other hand is fortunate to have thousands of DataPower Gateway clients worldwide. A subset of these clients have embarked on an API management strategy. As such, we only considered DataPower API Gateway revenue that is tied to API use cases, not the entire DataPower gateway revenue in this IDC report.

Big deal, what is in it for me?
Wow, tough audience ;-) But a fair question.
Think about your own companies or organizations, and you'll likely agree, "success begets success". The leading companies across all industries have put their trust in IBM for their API strategy.
Products that are successful get additional investments in the next budget cycle. This allows the product to innovate faster, close gaps faster and close customer requirements faster. This leads to acquiring new customers faster, which feeds into additional investments and the growth cycle continues. There is also the benefit of more users to collaborate with across companies, and more skills available for the solution in the marketplace.
