  • 1.  Why is IT Benchmarking missing some ATUM Sub-Towers?

    Posted Fri March 16, 2018 03:35 PM

Looking at the COST DATA tab in the settings on Interactive bench marking. Some Resource Towers have a subset of the Sub-Towers in the TBM Taxonomy v2. An example of this being compute with 4 of the 7 sub-towers.

Others have none of the sub-towers such as Security & Compliance. Also, under the Resource Tower "End User" there is a sub-tower "Email" that is not in the TBM Taxonomy.

Is there any documentation on the reasoning behind this?

    Hi David,

My understanding is that we do not have Benchmarks for all Towers and Sub-Towers. The fields provided in the Cost Data tab are the current Benchmarks available.

@Ryan Pail are you aware of anywhere this is documented?

    Trae,

Here is a link the TBM Poster for ATUM 2.0.  It has flagged all the Benchmark Towers \ Sub-Towers with Orange Triangles.

    Thanks Ryan and Trae!

That explains the Sub-towers that aren't available. What about the field "Email"? This is not a Sub-Tower in the  ATUM. Email costs have been in the Sub-Tower "End User Software". Should these costs be moved from that sub-tower to go into "Email"?

    David,

The Email one is actually a Service Name within the Service Taxonomy.  This would be something at we add a quantity at the Business Services Layer, not actually the IT Resource Towers Object.

    Cheers,

    Ryan

    Ryan,

My question is not regarding the Taxonomy, but the IT Benchmarking Cost Data configuration. As shown below, Email is grouped with the sub towers under the End User Tower in the IT Spend Breakdown by ATUM® Resource Towers and Sub-Towers  section.

Following the Taxonomy would the cost associated with email be found in Email and End User Software?  For example, if the cost was $100 for email and $250 for End User Software(including the service email), would I put $250 in the End User Software field or $150 so that I do double count the email service for End User.

    Best,

    David

    David,

Email is currently not part of the IT Resource Towers \ Sub Towers.  I understand that within Interactive BM it shows it under End Users which I can provide feedback to Products to make this more clear that it's not part of the IT Resource Towers.   However, in the way that Email is determined it is an Service Offering to the Business and the Service falls under the End User Services Service Type.  Email is not just End User Software, it is made up of Network, Storage, and Server costs.  This would not be all captured at the IT Resource Towers level, but would be captured at the Business Services.

Email is currently one that we are benchmarking at a Service Level.

Please let me know if this helps.

This does help. I do think there is a lot of confusion having Email indented under End User Resource Tower as it makes it look like a component of the End User Tower total number. I appreciate your help in clearing up this issue.

    Thank you,

    David
