I had created a simple metric to show the previous month's cost using =PreviousMonth(Cost) and added it to a report. 

Later, I noticed it wasn't summing correctly.  It would show the total at the bottom, but when I exported it to Excel and summed it there, it came up with an entirely different number.

Usually, the first thing I think of when something isn't summing correctly is I'm probably not seeing 'all rows in a time based query'. 

I also published the metric to a perspective and made sure to enable the 'Show all rows in a time based query' option and used the perspective in place of the metric on the report.

Still not summing correctly.  What gives? 🤷‍♀️

After looking back at the metric itself, I noticed the 'Summable' check box was not checked.

I checked the box and refreshed the data in the metric and lo and behold, there was the correct total!

You probably already knew this, but for those of us who didn't, sharing is caring as they say😉

Was thinking you were on during the weekend, too, and then realized it was Monday lol - time flies too fast on these holiday weekends.

Yeah, I definitely I need to learn more about model metrics and use those more.  Usually, whenever I need a summed amount to feed something, I always create a report and do a connector to send things to a table, and then pull from there.   Definitely a less efficient and slower way of doing things - old habits die hard​! 😖

You got any good areas on model metrics bookmarked?  🤩😎🐱‍👤   I'll be looking around Community, too, to see what all I can find!

I've been having all kinds of issues with my model and calculated metrics recently, so now I'm off to check on these summable boxes :) If either of you have any additional resources on modeled metrics and happen to share here, I'd find it SUPER helpful! I've been searching through community too but it's a bit daunting!

Something I learned the hard way is that we should select an option in the Metric Type box (for modeled metrics, that is):

In my oldish reference PDF (TBM Studio 12.8.1 Administrator's Guide-I downloaded it from the jiveon community years ago), it says:

• In reports, only values based on modeled metrics of Costing and Pricing types can be displayed in the currency chosen by users. All other values will be displayed in the base currency or in the currency to which they have been converted

Not sure what the effect is under other conditions, but I usually select Costing, except for one-Count of Actual Servers-which I selected Numeric, for obvious reasons.
 
I definitely have stumbled upon the Summable checkbox issue at some point.
