The United Nations Standard Products and Services Code® (UNSPSC®) offers a single global classification system that can be used for:

Company-wide visibility of spend analysis, Cost-effective procurement optimization and Full exploitation of electronic commerce capabilities.

These codes are leveraged by all organizations within various ERP/financial systems (e.g.:SAP)  to track Third Party spend. As a result we would like to leverage those codes to tie our spend to Cost Pools and IT Resource Towers and were looking to see if Apptio had any recommendations on what codes to use to tie to TBM Towers since these are universal codes utilized by many organizations. I implemented such a mapping in late 2013. The below is not reflective of the full UNSPC listing, but represents those I use today to map to ITRTs. IT Management: IT Mgmt & Admin represents our default mapping target.

Isaac – are you referring to defining services following the UNSPC classifications which would mean still using the ATUM model for cost pools and towers and then mapping to the UNSPC type services?
