    Hi, everyone.

I am upgrading Maximo environment from 7.6.1.1 to 7.6.1.3. Installation was ok, but updateDB has some error, there is nothing in log files. It is Oracle DB. Can you help me? Please check the attachment.

    Best regards

    Hi Dario,

there can be multiple reasons for this exception. Which exact version of 7.6.1.3 (including IFIX) are you upgrading to?
I personally would expect to see deeper stack trace.
Is it really all you get on the screen?
How about corresponding <drive>:\IBM\SMP\maximo\tools\maximo\log\Updatedb<timestamp>.log file content:

    • Does it say anything?
    • Does it exist at all (this can already lead us somewhere)

    Hi Andrzej,

    Thank You for your time.
That is problem, because we do not have  update<timestamp<.log on that location.
We have this problem only here, we already done this to our other client, and we did not have this kind of problem. This is the reason, that I ask for help here.

    Best regards

    Hi Dario,

in that case @Mark Robbins and @Michael Marsonet observations concerning RW access rights to the <drive>:\IBM\SMP\maximo\tools\maximo\log directory are most likely correct.
Can you elevate your command prompt privileges to the Administrator level and try again?

    Andrzej,

We just communicate with our client. We will try again with this in Monday, and we will check with them about our privileges for our user. I hope that is the problem.

    Best regards

    Hi Dario,

As Andrzej says you need to provide the updatedb log file.

A null pointer exception normally indicates that something has failed to:

    • perform an earlier step eg set a value or create something
    • a code problem - this is unlikely given that updatedb is a commonly used tool so code problems will be found very quickly

You should also provide more details:

Existing system information - this will help people consider if industry solutions are a factor

Is this a single jvm or multi cluster system ?

    Is it websphere or WebLogic?

If you decide to provide the log file then double check it for any sensitive information and replace them eg xxxx

But note down the values because they may be relevant

    Hi Mark,

    Thank You for your time.

Existing system information - this will help people consider if industry solutions are a factor: Windows server 2019 Std, Websphere 9.0.5.21, IBM Maximo 7.6.1.1 active.

Is this a single jvm or multi cluster system ? – Multi Cluster. There is one extra machine.

Is it websphere or WebLogic? – Websphere 9.0.5.21

    Dario,

I notice the command window is not in "Administrator" mode. I would try this running updateDB from an "Administrator Command Window"

Came here to say this but also ensure the account you are running this command with has the appropriate read/write/change/delete access to the IBM folder and sub directories .

    Cheers good luck !

    Hi Dario,

We also ran into the same error upgrading from 7.6.1.2 to 7.6.1.3

We found the issue to do with some files in the IBM/SMP/maximo/tools/java/jre/lib/security folder.

You might want to check the the java folder and it's sub-folders at your installation?

    Hi Priyaranjandas,

Thank You very much, that was the problem. We copied that folder from production enviroment, update xml files and everything went great. We did it, everything working perfect. Thank You one more time.

    Regards
