Hi,

I am trying to discover a Windows 2008 box, but I cannot work out why it will not discover. When using the Taddmtool, I am getting the error :-

!!! TaddmTool Error: Exception getting host info for IP: 0x2af9: System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: No such host is known
!!! TaddmTool Error:    at System.Net.Dns.InternalGetHostByName(String hostName, Boolean includeIPv6)
!!! TaddmTool Error:    at System.Net.Dns.GetHostByName(String hostName)
!!! TaddmTool Error:    at Taddm.Context.SetHostname(String hostname) in c:\Users\Administrator\Desktop\jd\TaddmTool\TaddmTool\Context.cs:line 374

 

Any idea what I need to change to get TADDM to discover this box ?

Can you provide more information around what you're doing? The error is stating that the IP address represented by hex value 0x2af9 is not known. And that makes sense because that hex value converts to IP address "0.0.42.249", which is not valid. So where did that hex value come from? Where are you trying to run taddmtool? Can you give other information surrounding what you're trying to do?

Hi Frank,
Many thanks for getting back to me.

Since I posted this, we have found that UAC is preventing us from carrying
out the discovery. The error message was a red herring.
