  • 1.  Table Views in TBM Studio

    Posted Wed August 22, 2018 01:45 PM

A few moments ago, I submitted an enhancement request to Apptio's Product Team to add "Views" onto table documents in TBM Studio. Below is the text for the request (case #138447). Please consider asking your CSM (or other Apptio POC) to add your organization to the case for tracking and advocacy.

    -----------------

Similar to how SharePoint permits views of libraries and lists...please consider adding functionality to create, change, and delete views of tables in TBM Studio.

This link provides screenshots and features of SharePoint 2010, 2013, 2016, and Online that can be used when considering the features to add. https://support.office.com/en-us/article/create-change-or-delete-a-view-of-a-list-or-library-27ae65b8-bc5b-4949-b29b-4ee87144a9c9

Some specific features I propose for consideration:

    * Views should be accessible to any user who has access to TBM Studio, but creating, changing, and deleting restricted by permission granted to role.

    * Add a new permission to Access Controls to permit creating, changing, and deleting views.

    * Views should be associated to the whole table in which they were created for.

    * If a referenced column in a view is not present in a step of the table, the view should display all other columns matching its specification.

    * If a user wishes to add an unmatched column to an existing view's specification for a specific step, they can do so via a "change" action to the view. If that newly added column doesn't exist in other subsequent steps, all other columns are displayed per previous point.

    * Ordering of the columns and any sorting applied to column values should be retained as part of the view's specification.

    * A new "Views" ribbon should contain the menu items needed to support these features, but only visible when viewing a table document.

    * Extending on above point, unlike the Report, Format, Ad Hoc, Table, Data, and Formulas ribbons displayed when a report is checked out...the Views ribbon should be available at all times when viewing a table...checked out or not.

    * The ability to create, change, or delete views for a table and their menu options / buttons on the Views ribbon, should be disabled while a table document is checked in. However, applying a view to a checked in table document should always be permitted.

    * Similar to Global Filters ability to retain value from previous sessions...a view applied to a table should be retained on subsequent sessions.
