I am having issues with SMTP Client timing out after 5 minutes sending attachments to GMAIL.   I cannot seem to locate the setting for this?  the connection is slow. the attachment is not that large.  smaller attachments ok, and sending email notes ok.   Any advise on where this can be adjusted? 

If i attach a slightly smaller file it goes through ok.  it s a simple PDF attachment.

I have no direct answer to your question but, being IBM i performance specialist, I have an idea that you may try increasing IBM i TCP data transmission throughput to make sure the mail attachment is sent within 5 minutes.  You can do this by using CHGTCPA command and set the parameter TCPMINRTM to 100 (msec.) - it has a default value of 250 (msec.).  You may need to restart SMTP after the change.    Why do I suggest this? Thanks for that tip.  That may help with our offsite Save operations that are also slow.  It did not seem to change the SMTP Client 5 minute timeout issue.  This is a setting that can be adjusted on other platforms, I just cannot seem to find it in the IBM i settings.

This 5 minutes time out may be from the other end or any intermediate network node (if there is any).  You can check this by starting communication trace in IBM i (specifying the other end node's IP address if you know so the trace file is kept small) and send the mail again and stop the trace when time out occurs. Then dump the trace to IFS file (in PCAP format) and use Wireshark tool to check from which IP address the connection termination is from.  If the IP sending connection termination is not from IBM i, then you know it's from outside network node.
