  • 1.  Resetting Bob?

    Posted Wed April 01, 2026 03:41 PM

I had early access trail to Bob, now expired. I setup the official trail but cannot get my Bob to work. In the documentation, there is a reset action.

Resetting Bob to resolve persistent issues | Docs | IBM Bob

But the settings cog icon in the Bob panel does is not present.

How can i reset my BOb link so I can link to the new trail?

FYI, removing and installing the software does not work. It even opens the previous workspaces so something is being kept.

    Hi Michael,

have you uninstalled Bob before installing the GA release version?

There are some significant changes from the pre-release / preview to the GA version of Bob.

I also recommend, to NOT install the GA version "over" the preview version. I have seen situations where this worked, but also situations where this failed.

The best way ist, to make notes, what additional extensions you installed, write down or export settings - and then make a ZIP backup of your preview version and uninstall it. Than install IBM Bob GA version from:

       https://bob.ibm.com

After that start your 30 day trial.

    HTH and kind regards,

    Daniel

Hello Daniel, Yes I removed Bob before downloading and installing the GA version. I don't need to keep anything from pre-GA so I can start from scratch.

Is there a directory or profile that does not get removed when uninstalling the application?
Seems like previous installation is hanging around and so the new installation is picking up application settings. It does not ask me to log into anything after removal and re-installation.

    Hi Michael,

ok - IIRC on the Mac you should search for

    /Library/Application Support/IBM Bob
    ~/Library/Application Support/IBM Bob

The global und user local Library folders. If you delete these, Bob should reset to defaults.

When I remove Bob (Applications -> IBM Bob -> Move to Trash), both of those directories are removed. Are there any other lcoations?

    There are the standard directories

    ~/.bob
    ~/.bobide
    ~/.vscode

Maybe you back them up and delete them.

Thanks but tried that, no difference. Bob still starts after re-install without asking for login and keeps old workspace. Any other thoughts on what might keep a configuration?

Found something else - not Bob, but VS Code has it's own settings - so maybe remove also:

    $HOME/Library/Application Support/Code

    And probably:

    /Library/Application Support/Code

And maybe also Backup and remove your "workspace" folder.

But I couldn't find anything more. So if this doesn't work, you probably have to contact IBM Support.
