  • 1.  Middleware sub tower - what to include and best allocation method

    Posted 01/26/16 02:40 PM

We are wanting to utilize the middleware sub tower but want to make sure that we are following best practices...

    • what should be included in the middleware subtower - the definition in the taxonomy is vague, we are looking for specific examples
    • what allocation methodology is being used - where do you allocate these costs to?  servers?  business application?
      • what data is utilized for allocation methodology?

Any guidance and past experience would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Kelly,

Middleware would include software resources such as: Enterprise Service Bus, Object Request Brokers, Enterprise App Integration, or Data Integration.

I would recommend allocating middleware costs directly to middleware applications (e.g., Tibco).

    Thanks

    Neal

Ran across this and glad I did - will bring up to the team in our chats about middleware.  Typically we view it as most software sitting on the server in between the OS and the app and so instead of burdening the middleware specific app, we burden the servers.  I like the idea of hitting the app, tho.  Will definitely bring this up - thanks!
