Hello, I have installed the microcode RS-740-K-RE22287 and I wanted to update it to RS-740-R-RE25164. When I finished installing it, it sent me SRC B6005121 and B2006015: "A problem occurred during the startup of a partition. The load source media is corrupted or not valid." it tells me that the microcode is corrupted. After several attempts, I opted to restore option 21. Can anyone tell me what could have happened? What can I do when I try to install again? Regards.

    Dear Miguel

The Option 21 that you mentioned is a valid option to replace the LIC level if you have the SAVSYS image from the server with LIC resave level R.   There is also another option on how to do it as described in this URL:  Replacing the Licensed Internal Code at https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/i/7.4.0?topic=installation-replacing-licensed-internal-code

You should described how you did the LIC replacement such as whether you use virtual optical library or physical media to do the LIC replacement.   You should also do the check on the downloaded LIC install image file to see if it is not corrupted.

I forgot to ask WHY you wanted to replace the K resave level with the R level (which is the most current level at this moment)?

Does the IBM i LPAR run for some time already?  If so. the more proper way to update the LIC level is to apply all cumulative PTF packages to the latest levels instead. (It's not easy and not practical to apply PTFs only to LIC.)

Hi, I used the image catalog, PWRDWNSYS OPTION(*IMMED) RESTART(*YES) IPLSRC(*IMGCLG)
IMGCLG(catalog-name), it didn't show me the microcode installation screen, but I saw the codes C6xx41DC C6xx41CC. When I tried to reboot, it didn't.

We're going to update from POWER, and for health reasons, we usually set the latest RESAVE level and PTFs. Thanks and best regards.

    Dear Miguel

    >>>>  and for health reasons, we usually set the latest RESAVE level and PTFs <<<<

For a working system, to achieve what you mentioned - system health reason, you need to ONLY apply all latest cumulative and group PTFs.  No need to do LIC replacement which is needed only when encountering weird problems that are known to be due to damage in LIC which is rare.  And after LIC replacement, you also still need to apply LIC PTFs to bring it up to date.

    Miguel,

I agree with Satid and wonder if you followed the IBM i 7.4 manual

... described in this URL:  Replacing the Licensed Internal Code at https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/i/7.4.0?topic=installation-replacing-licensed-internal-code

    Satid,

Normally you would be right, especially if they are not too far behind on PTF's.  However if they are multiple TR's back and years behind on cumes then it might be better to apply the resave, cume and groups.  I've ran into Link/Loader issues and stuff like that in cases like that.
