  • 1.  Mapping Azure data to Cloud Service Provider Master Data

    Posted 12/23/15 03:06 PM

Maybe I'm missing it, but the online Help section for configuring the Cloud Service Provider component doesn't give a mapping of Azure fields to the CSP Master Data table.  It does a nice job of mapping the AWS fields as seen in the screenshot below, but nor so much for Azure, and in fact it looks like there is a placeholder note that the editor put in to remind themselves to come back later and add the Azure mappings.

Does anyone have a good mapping that they use, and/or can Help be updated to show the correct mappings?

Great Question. Adding @Michelle Bennett and @Gorakh Mehan to the discussion.

    Hi Everyone -

Take a look at this article on Community.  I think it'll have what you need on pg. 19 of hte PDF:  Cost Transparency Cloud Services Configuration Guide

If that doesn't work, reply and we'll help you out.  Tagging @Randall Tennant as well for visibility.

    Thanks!

    Josh

That seems to be headed in the right direction, but the mappings seem off to me.

The AWS mapping on page 18 indicates that the CSP Master Data table has fields called Customer Name and Customer Number, but I don't see them at all.  I see Consumer and Consumer ID, but not Customer.

The Azure mapping on page 19 tells me that I should see a handful of fields in the Azure Transform that I do not see at all.  Service, ServiceType, ServiceResource, BillableResourceQty... none of these fields are in my Azure data.  And the same thing here as with AWS - there is no Customer Name or Customer Number in the CSP Master Data table for me to map to.

Additionally, page 13 is not very clear in explaining how to access Reserved Instance data from AWS.  Is there supposed to be another API report that I can set up to get this?  There seems to be only 5 options - the 4 main reports that I already have (Billing Detail, Billing Detail with Tags, Cost Allocation, and Monthly Summary), and then an Advanced option.  My assumption is that I would have to use the Advanced option, but that's not really mentioned in the instructions.  All that's there is this:

Thank you for pointing out the mapping and column name issues in the configuration guide.  We have updated the instructions in the guide here: Cost Transparency - Foundation: Cloud Services Configuration Guide.  Updates include:

    1. Removed references to Customer Name and Customer Number (those columns do not exist in the Cloud Service Provider Master Data Set).
    2. Updated Azure bill column names to reflect Azure bill structural changes introduced in 2015 including:
      • "Service" changed to "Meter Category"
      • "ServiceType" changed to "Meter Sub-Category"
      • "ServiceResource" changed to "Meter Name"

In terms of your question around AWS Reserved Instance purchases, those are not currently accessible via the Datalink AWS Connector - they need to be brought into Apptio either manually or via the Amazon API.  We will address that topic in more detail within a separate Community thread (and will point this thread to the new topic).

Randall, I clicked on the link to the updated instructions and got "Not Authorized".  I assume that's a mistake.  Please fix.  Thanks!

Steve - apologies for the inconvenience - I've brought this up with the TBM Community administrator and will get back to you as soon as it's resolved.
